Don't think yoga and pilates can help your golf game? Think again. Flexibility is the ability of a joint to move through its complete range of motion. In golf, improved flexibility translates into a better back swing and more precise swing mechanics. With this precision, the flexible player can hit the ball long and accurately without relying on force.

In contrast, the less flexible player cannot finesse the swing mechanics as well. So he has to swing harder -- and probably more often -- to reach the greens. The result: he fatigues more quickly and hits less efficiently as the game proceeds.

Basic yoga and/or pilates stretching will go far in improving your flexibility. For best results, stretch immediately after a workout, while the muscles are still warm. Hold each stretch for 20 to 30 seconds, and be sure you don't bounce. Do each stretch two or three times.
