Massage can be great for more than just relaxation. It can help injuries heal faster and can reduce soreness in muscles. It's ok to call upon a massage therapist once in awhile while training.

  • If you have recently completed a particularly grueling workout or physical sport, you might consider getting a massage to alleviate muscles soreness. Professional athletes routinely get massages for this purpose.
  • Increased blood flow helps muscles heal more quickly after injury, and massage is a great way to increase blood flow. But be sure to get clearance from your physician or physical therapist first. (Get a recommendation for a massage therapist as well.) A massage that is inappropriate or improperly administered could cause further and long-lasting damage to the injured area.
