Do you know the difference between pull-ups and chin-ups? The answer lies in the hands.

  • PULL-UPS: The palms face away from the body; this position works the back muscles more.
  • CHIN-UPS: The palms face toward the body; this position works the arms' bicep muscles more.

Pull-ups and chin-ups are two very challenging exercises. If you're not able to do these on your own, see if your gym has a machine for assisted pull-ups. These machines enable you to lift a percentage of your body weight, rather than all of it. As you become stronger, you'll be able to lift more of your weight.
