Nuts make an excellent snack any time of day. They have an excellent nutritional profile. Even a small handful provides plenty of protein, monounsaturated fats, phytochemicals. (Of course, nuts also provide plenty of calories, so keep the serving size small if you're watching your weight.)

Unfortunately, nuts packaged for snacking are often heavily salted -- which is bad news for people who want to control their sodium intake. The solution: Instead of buying nuts in the supermarket's snack aisle, shop for them in the baking aisle. Nuts packaged for cooking typically are not pre-salted.
