When it comes to strength training, the abdominal muscles should be treated like any other muscle group. This means:

  • Use proper form. Learn how to do crunches and other ab exercises correctly. Otherwise, you won't be strengthening the muscles as much as you could.
  • Don't get hung up on numbers. For any abdominal exercise, 2 or 3 sets of 8 to 12 repetitions each is fine. Doing 100 won't get you better results.
  • Give your abs a day of rest (at least). Like all other muscle groups, the abs need 24 to 48 hours between workouts in order to repair and build.
