If you sometimes get bored with ab crunches, check to see if your gym has an abdominal crunch machine. This machine can give you a chance to get up off the floor and vary your ab regimen a bit.

As with all strength-training exercises, using the crunch machine requires good form to get the results you want. Follow these guidelines:

  • Don't perform the crunch by pushing down on the arm pad. Instead, execute the crunch by contracting your ab muscles.
  • Do the crunch slowly, both during the bend and the return to the upright position.
  • Keep your neck in a neutral position; don't bend it backward or forward.
