For many Americans, it just wouldn't be the 4th of July without hamburgers. Here are some basic tips for grilling a better burger:

  • The fat in ground meat is what makes most burgers juicy. However, if you want to go a healthier route by using lean or extra-lean beef, you can help retain juices by grilling over medium heat instead of high heat.
  • Don't press down on burgers while they're grilling. This squeezes out the juices. To make sure that you've cooked burgers fully, make sure there is no pink left, even in the juices. If you're using a grilling thermometer, the center should register at least 160 degrees.
