Mom was right. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. If you want to perform well at work, be energetic, feel positive or optimize your resting metabolism, you can't afford to skip breakfast.

Even if you're not usually hungry in the morning, the benefits of breakfast are worth developing a new eating pattern. Start by eating light breakfasts that contain both complex carbohydrates and proteins, such as yogurt with low-fat granola, wheat toast with peanut butter, or whole-grain cereal in milk.

And if weight loss (or maintenance) is a concern, that's all the more reason to pay attention to the morning meal. Eating a balanced breakfast decreases your likelihood of overeating at lunch.
